After having spent almost one week in Genoa for the test sails for the European Yacht of the Year award we are back at the yard again. We got to sail three days with 11 journalists from nine different countries (Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, UK, Switzerland, Spain, the Netherlands and Germany). Unfortunately the weather was not optimal for Dragonfly sailing since we had no wind most of the time. For the first two days the maximum wind speed were 2-4 knots. Hence, it was a tough job to impress the jury members since we were drifting around most of the time, but we got a smile on their face when they got to round 5-6 knots of speed in these light wind conditions. Fortunately, we got a very nice breeze Thursday afternoon where we got to show some of the jury members the sailing skills and speed potential of the Dragonfly 25 as we got to round 19,2 knots in only 12 knots of wind.
The overall impression of the week is that the jury members could see the speed potential and the great sailing skills of the Dragonfly 25 and it seems to us like they are fond of the idea of the “going back to basics” concept of the Dragonfly 25 with the simple day sailor interior that characterizes the boat.
The winner of the European Yacht of the Year title will be announced in January 2016 at the BOOT Düsseldorf boat show.
